LASIK: A New Way to See

The LASIK Procedure

LASIK, an acronymn for Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis, reshapes the inner layer of the cornea using a laser.

Using the IntraLase FS Laser, Dr. Katzen first creates a protective flap of corneal tissue which is gently folded back.

The VISX STAR S4 "Active Trak" Excimer laser is then programmed to remove a predetermined amount of tissue from the inner cornea to correct a specific amount of refractive error.

Once the inner layer of corneal surface has been treated, Dr. Katzen returns the flap to it's original position and the eye is allowed to heal normally without the need for stitches.

Most patients enjoy dramatically improved vision within 24 hours of their procedure.
